Q. What is a Ten Pack Foil?

A. Approximately ten foils, perfect for teens, that would like some accent color or to add some extra pizzazz to a basic color. These foils are generally placed over the part line and occupy the very top of your head.

Q. How can I maintain more volume and fullness?

A. Volume and fullness are obtained from products, hair cutting techniques, perms, color and specific styling techniques. It is best to have a conversation with your stylist to customize your products and service to create the fullness that you are striving for.

Q. If I want permanent long loose curls, like celebrities in magazines, should I get a perm?

A. A perm will give you a uniform curl throughout your hair, as opposed to size inconsistent curls mostly at the ends of the hair strand. Though a perm will give you support that you will need for long lasting sets, it will not look like a curling iron or roller set or loose long curls.

Q. Can I get a perm and a hair color in the same day?

A. Two chemical services performed on the same day can be damaging to your hair and could cause your hair color to fade. It is recommended to wait a minimum of 3-7 days between services.

Q. My hair has been lightened recently; can I still get a perm or a chemical relaxer?

A. It is best to get a strand test before layering perm or relaxer chemicals over colored hair, especially lightened hair.

Q. I colored my hair at home with a box color from the store and the color is too dark. What can I do to get it back to the color I originally wanted?

A. The most common solution would be to first perform a color wash and then go through with a re-coloring process. This service is considered a "Corrective Color" and will take at least 2-3 hours, depending on the individual's situation. The level of damage caused by the process depends on the original condition of the hair, so a trim may be encouraged, along with a series of Botanical Hair Treatments.

Q. I have hard water, well water or chlorinated swimming pool at home. What can I do to keep my hair healthy?

A. Build up as a result of those minerals and chemicals will cause your hair to feel dry, snarly, or appear overly glossy. Regular Malibu treatments, monthly in bad cases, and using Aveda's Sun Care Products once a week, daily for pool use, will make a huge difference. Mineral build up on the hair can prevent proper absorption of hair color and prevent your hair from styling to its highest standards. Also, if you are a swimmer, always wet your hair down in a shower before entering the pool.

Q. My hair has been light blonde for a while, now I want my hair to be a darker brown shade. What kind of service should I book?

A. This would be considered a "Corrective Color". We recommend preparing the hair first with a filler color and then applying the desired color. This two-step process will prevent fading and provide for the richest color possible. This type of service will take at least 2-3 hours and may require a trim afterwards, depending on the original condition of the hair.

Q. I have gray hair and I want to cover it completely, but I don't want my hair to be one solid color. Should I get a two-color foil?

A. Book your appointment for an all over color and a foil. The type of foil you choose depends on the amount of highlights or low lights you would like. These services will leave your hair looking very natural and gray free. Getting a foil and a color will also require less maintenance than just one solid color.

Q. Initially when I get my hair colored, it gives my hair the natural appearance of being so shiny and healthy. How can I maintain the shine between colors?

A. Using Aveda's Brilliant Shine for coarse hair or Light Elements Smoothing Fluid for fine hair, in your wet hair daily will give you a glow between shampoos. Aveda also offers a semi-permanent glossification service that can be performed between colors that will last until your next chemical service.

Q. I'm trying to grow my hair out. What can I do to encourage hair growth and keep it healthy while the in-between-stages drive me crazy?

A. Stimulating the hair follicle at the root by brushing or massaging will encourage growth. Make sure you have a balanced diet. Use the Damage Remedy Treatment once a week to keep the condition of your hair at its best, and to prevent breakage and split ends. Only use a comb gently on your hair while it’s wet to reduce the amount of breakage. Brushes can be too forceful on your vulnerable wet hair. Another option would be to ask your hairstylist to recommend a fun new color for your hair. When you're trying to maintain long hair and feel good about it, sometimes all it takes is a small but exciting new change to feel fresh and beautiful again.

Q. I have gray hair and want to temporarily cover it, but I don't want there to be an obvious line when my hair starts to grow back out. What would you recommend?

A. Aveda has a semi-permanent color line, which, as the color grows out, begins to fade leaving your hair without a drastic line between the color and the natural re-growth. Another option would be to blend your gray with a two-color foil and haircut. This technique grows out very natural and will make you look 10 years younger for a longer span of time.
